The rijster forest
Rijsterbos, one of the most renowned forests in Friesland, has a rich history dating back to 1676 when it was created by the Amsterdam regent Hiob de Wildt. Once elegant ladies in billowing skirts strolled along the majestic forest avenues here, but today it is a favorite forest for families. Explore the “Rysterbosk” by following the red or blue posts that indicate marked hiking trails. Even more adventurous is to wander along old paths and suddenly be surprised by the breathtaking view of the IJsselmeer from the Mirnserklif.
