In addition to water sports, Friesland also offers much for lovers of culture and history. With its own language, numerous museums and unique traditions, such as the famous Elfstedentocht, there is plenty to discover. At Waterland of Friesland (www.waterlandvanfriesland.nl) you will find museums from UNESCO world-class to small and intimate regional museums that will be happy to tell you more about Frisian culture and history.
Experience the UNESCO World Heritage Woudagemaal in Lemmer, taste Beerenburg at Weduwe Joustra, admire the Waterpoort or visit the Frisian Maritime Museum in Sneek.
Sloten, the gem among the eleven Frisian towns, is picturesquely surrounded by houses along the water of the Diep. Follow the V2 Walking Tour through the Rijster Forest, past all the historical sites that recall the Germans’ rocket launches in World War II.
Franeker is home to the Eisinga Planetarium, the oldest working planetarium in the world. Admire Jopie Huisman’s paintings at the museum in Workum, visit old Frisian churches like the Broerekerk in Bolsward, or discover the historic town of Hindeloopen with its colorful costumes and typical painting. And don’t forget to check out the female of Stavoren, found in Stavoren harbor.

There are plenty of fun activities in the area for families with children, with sun, sand, forest and water providing plenty of variety. In nice weather, families can enjoy themselves on the water with a sailboat or SUP. In rainy weather, children can have fun in an indoor playground, visit a museum or have fun in an indoor pool. There is no playground equipment at the villa park itself.
